about

After recording had wrapped for the new version of "Me and Bobby McGee" by Ronnie Hawkins, Kris Kristofferson, and Gordon Lightfoot at Hawkstone Manor, The Weber Brothers were asked to play a few songs for the party as were the others who were there. James McKenty left the mics live, capturing these impromptu jam sessions. This song was played for an audience of Ronnie Hawkins, Kris Kristofferson, Gordon Lightfoot, their wives and whoever else happened to be there that day. Melissa Payne plays her fiddle, Robin Hawkins and Travis Good play along on acoustic guitars. A fitting number to play for these legendary men, who've certainly been played on many, many a worn out record.

lyrics

Got a back room in my house
Nobody knows about
That's where I go to get away

Just a creaky rockin' chair
A turntable turnin'
Helps relieve the pressure of my day

Could you close the door behind you?
Did anybody follow?
'Cause this ain't just a place for everyone

Just take your pick and tell
Where to drop the needle
On the shining starts I used to walk among

'Cause you can't beat the sound of worn out records
Must have played 'em all a hundred thousand times
They're dusty and they hiss
But I never could resist
You can't beat the sound of worn out records

My whole life is in these boxes
And old tape recorders
Decisions, friends, and money I once made

You might say I'm sentimental
Or some kind of hoarder
Well let the ghost of good times past serenade

'Cause you can't beat the sound of worn out records
Must have played 'em all a hundred thousand times
They're crackle and they pop
I want to hear it from the top
You can't beat the sound of worn out records

They found a fossil on the road
An old man tellin' stories
The lucky dog who made it out alive

So if you really want to know
What it takes to taste the glory

You can't beat the sound of worn out records
Must have played 'em all a hundred thousand times
They turn and they hum
For the good times come and gone
You can't beat the sound of worn out records
You can't beat the sound of worn out records
You can't beat the sound of worn out records
