about

"The Last Days of the Broken Hearted Jester" inspired the creation of a graphic novel/adult coloring book designed by artist Sheldon Sveinson, and released in 2017....the song is also download ready inside the book with a download code. The book is available in The Weber Brothers online store:

Graphically interpreted by author and artist extraordinaire, Sheldon Sveinson, the tale of "The Last Days of the Broken Hearted Jester" is as old as time itself...forbidden passion, power, corruption. Set in medieval times, a princess, betrothed to a far away prince since birth, finds herself caught in a romantic tryst with the Court Jester - the King's fool! the King, in designating himself both judge and jury, seals the Jester's fate.

-Ryan Weber says....

"The Jester is one of those ones that came in a flash. I'm not exactly sure where it came from. I guess some of the characters in there could have been loosely modeled on people around me at the time, but VERY loosely if they were. It kind of came in a dream, and once I had the basic idea about this Jester, the whole thing came very quickly, poured off the pen as I scribbled in the van on the way to a gig somewhere. It is really its own thing, so the question of how to put it out there was a tricky one. It's so different it was hard to see where or how it would fit onto an album. There is so much imagery in it, with the castle and the kind, the princess, the dungeon, the castle guard, the jester...I thought it would be cool to somehow put it out with some images. That's when I thought of Sheldon. I had seen some of his work before and I just had this feeling that he was the guy to give this to. I sent him a message with the idea and he just went for it. He would send me images as he did them and they surpassed any expectations I might have had by miles. I was and am blown away with the artwork he made that give visual representation to this song, to say he nailed it is an understatement, he took it to a whole other level, and now with this colouring book style, anybody can take it even further. It is very cool to me to see something that can keep growing and growing in this way, and in many different ways depending on who does the colouring. I didn't even really know that adult colouring books were a thing, but I'm glad they are, because it allows people to visually take something in a further direction, and that direction is whatever one they see fit. I am excited to see what people come up with from here."

lyrics

"The Last Days of the Broken Hearted Jester"

Oh the jester's days are numbered, so says the king
The gavel rattled hard upon the block
Too many blunders been unraveling as the second hand skips around the clock

Oh the sentence has been passed

He lives in a cubby in the western wing with nothing but his clothes and jester hat
Now he has grown chubby and his juggling is no longer a high demanded act

Oh his skies are overcast

Chorus:
Sheepish Sheepish and Nervous Pervous come down with Uncle Fester
They line up all along these castle walls to watch the last days of the broken hearted jester

Well he stands flat-footed in the vestibule, the care free bounce has gone from his step
Another day of insults and ridicule, the jangling of his bells no longer helps

All the laughter turned to scorn

The princess in the royal room she combs her hair and lets a tear fall from her eye
She and only she really seems to care the clown face painted jester's doomed to die

Oh to know his heart's so torn

Chorus

The princess met the jester when he took his post of royal entertainer for the king
She'd watch him dance as he made a toast, something about him so bewildering

Oh the way he played the fool

Took up conversation as the evening closed, she wanted to know where he'd come from
Sat down close beside him as the king he dozed, and the jester told her of when he was young

Oh he'd never been to school

Chorus

The princess had been spotted in the western wing, spotted by the drunken castle guard
Coming from the jester's room one morning, the rumours swept the castle swift and hard

Oh and before long they reached the king

The princess for some time now had been betrothed to the regal prince of the neighbouring black hand
Who in his boyhood days had signed the oath and stood in high esteem of high command

Oh he'd never stand for such things

Chorus

The king put out a price for any evidence, anything to prove the jester's crime
Proof shot up quick, he had no defence, the whole castle quick to testify

Oh he must have hypnotized the princess

They beat him with a staff and a bag of nails and switched his bells for iron chains
Down in a dungeon worse then any jail, chained next to skeletal remains

Oh they said he was possessed

Chorus

Meanwhile news of all of this was spreading wide to all the peasants and the prince
The princess weeping at the riverside, she wondered how she'd explain this

Oh could she come clean?

The prince rode straight away just to see his bride, to find out if she was alright
He told her that in him she could confide. She said it had only been one night

The prince said, "He must meet the guillotine!!"

Chorus

The peasants in the village of the jester's youth heard of the execution day
Well aware they didn't know the truth but the sentence would be carried out anyway

Oh he was no heretic

They came by droves to the castle walls to see the jester one more time
They drug him out through the horses stalls, pelted him with garbage from all sides

Oh the princess ran away sick

Chorus

The king was looking on as the jester cried, begging him for mercy and to be spared
The king spat and said, "You must be justified. You must pay the price for what you dared!"

Oh they pushed his head inside

I woke up as the guillotine was pulled above the jester's head for everyone
They say you must give all you've got for love, and that's exactly what he'd done

Oh the lonely princess cried

Chorus
